Dr. Angelo Ciminiello

Dr. Angelo Ciminiello

Medical Director, OrthoConnecticut

Dr. Angelo Ciminiello is the true definition of a sports medicine specialist. He is fellowship trained in sports medicine, served as assistant team physician to the Boston Celtics and Northeastern University, and is the former director of Orthopedic Trauma at Danbury Hospital. Dr. Ciminiello's combination of superior medical training, experience as a knee and shoulder surgeon, and on-the-field credentials, makes him uniquely qualified to understand the physical demands and psyche of the competitive athlete. As captain of his college's Division I baseball team, he earned numerous scholar-athlete honors while leading the players to a Big East Championship and the NCAA College World Series Tournament.

Dr. Ciminiello believes patients do not need to be high-level athletes to receive high-level care. As a sports medicine subspecialist, he has a deep interest in shoulder and knees injuries, complex fractures, and minimally invasive arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery. He is the only sports medicine surgeon in the area to perform All Inside ACL Reconstruction. He has authored several articles on rotator cuff repairs and is frequently asked to speak to surgical residents and civic groups on sports medicine. In addition to being the team physician for the FPHL and NAHL Danbury Hat Tricks, Ciminiello works with Ridgefield High School, Bethel High School, and the collegiate NECBL team Danbury Westerners.

Amy Schneider

Amy Schneider

Head Athletic Trainer

Amy Schneider ATC, LAT graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor's in Science and Sports Medicine from Sacred Heart University. Schneider has worked with professional hockey teams in Danbury (Whalers, Titans, and Hat Tricks) since the Federal Hockey League's inauguration in 2010. Additionally, Schneider has been the Head Athletic Trainer at Bethel High School since 2010, doing medical coverage for all sports. In the summer, she works as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Danbury Westerners baseball organization (NECBL).

Denise Vitti ATC, LAT graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training from Lasell College. Denise began working in the Federal Prospect Hockey League in 2022 with the Danbury Hat Tricks. Denise is currently the Head Athletic Trainer at New Milford High School, providing medical coverage for all 29 sports. During the summer, she works with the Danbury Westerners baseball team, which is part of the NECBL.

Erin Koukopoulos ATC, LAT, EMT began as an athletic training intern for the Danbury Hat Tricks Organization in 2019 during their inaugural season under Amy Schneider and Lee Day. Koukopoulos became a certified EMT in early 2020 and began working games solo while she was still in school. Koukopoulos graduated from Central Connecticut State University in May 2022 with her B.S. in Athletic Training and is graduating from Southern Connecticut State University  in May with her M.S. in Exercise Science, specializing in Sports Psychology and Counseling. Koukopoulos has experience working with the New York Football Giants as an athletic training intern during the summer of 2022. Koukopoulos is currently a full-time athletic trainer at Cheshire Academy and helps with medical coverage for the Danbury Westerners of the NECBL in the summers.

Dr. Peter Ackerman

Physician Assistant, OrthoConnecticut

Peter Ackerman has been a Physician Assistant for OrthoConnecticut since 2011. He has experience working beside multiple doctors in the office and operating room. Ackerman has assisted in a plethora of diverse surgeries ranging from minimally invasive arthroscopies to total joint replacements of the knees, shoulders, hips and ankles. As of 2015, he is working exclusively with Dr. Angelo Ciminiello, which means Pete will be assisting in all of the physician's office hours and surgeries. This includes assisting Dr. Ciminiello with All-Inside ACL reconstructive surgeries, a new and innovative technique which utilizes arthroscopic instrumentation with smaller incisions and is a less invasive way of repairing a tear so that patients experience less trauma and easier recovery.

With over twelve years of experience in the sports medicine field as an athletic trainer and strength and conditioning specialist, Ackerman has worked as the athletic trainer for both Immaculate High School and New Fairfield High School. Ackerman has also helped organize and implement education clinics for the Western Connecticut Sports Medicine Society along with Immaculate High School.

Ackerman currently coaches little league baseball and stays active himself by participating in obstacle course races as well as playing in a men's baseball league. With Ackerman's experience in sports medicine education, athletic training and being an athlete himself comes full understanding of the demands placed upon an athlete's body and the desire to return to normal day to day activities.

Dr. Jared DiLorenzo

Dr. Jared DiLorenzo

Team Chiropractor, Danbury Chiropractic & Wellness

Dr. Jared S. DiLorenzo received his bachelor’s degree from Quinnipiac University while playing Division I soccer. He received his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree in 2007 from New York Chiropractic College, where he graduated magna cum laude. He is a member of the American Chiropractic Association and Connecticut Chiropractic Association.

Dr. Jared S. DiLorenzo received his bachelor’s degree from Quinnipiac University while playing Division I soccer. He received his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree in 2007 from New York Chiropractic College, where he graduated magna cum laude. He is a member of the American Chiropractic Association and Connecticut Chiropractic Association.

Dr. DiLorenzo has post graduate education in functional soft tissue therapy and nutrition, which effectively reduces recovery time and enhances athletic performance. He is a certified provider of Cox flexion-distraction and formerly certified in Active Release Technique (ART). Dr. DiLorenzo has also done additional training in the Fascial Distortion Model (FDM). The Fascial Distortion Model is a method of identifying the source of pain or injury by tuning in to the patient’s description of their symptoms. Fascial distortions are corrected with hands-on deep pressure application with measurable, dramatic results. This will help to improve optimal performance while decreasing recovery/rehabilitation time.

Dr. DiLorenzo has worked with a variety of patients such as athletes on the high school and professional level (such as the Danbury Whalers/Hat Tricks), and pregnant women and children. He has lectured on topics including stress management, low back safety and injury prevention, nutrition, and putting an end to chronic headaches.

Dr. DiLorenzo has also been involved in gathering data for a research study on Post-operative patients using the Cox Flexion distraction chiropractic decompression technique. He lives locally with his wife Jennifer and enjoys exercising, playing soccer, and spending time with his triplets Jared, Ariella, and Gemma.

Dr. Matt Hartsburg DC DACBSP® is a native of Danbury, CT and founded the Hartsburg Chiropractic Health Center in 2005.  He is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Kinesiology and earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic at Life Chiropractic College West in 2003. Dr. Hartsburg is a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians® which is over a 300-hour post-doctorate continuing education program including a sports medicine residency program.

Dr. Hartsburg was a member of the Team USA Medical Staff for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, China and has treated athletes at the United States Olympic Training Centers in Colorado Springs, CO and Lake Placid, NY since 2016.  Additionally, he continues to work with USA Bobsled & Skeleton as part of the World Cup and World Championship Sports Medicine Team.  Dr. Matt also has covered multiple international events for the Nitro Circus, World Skate, and the Dew Tour with WMI Global, Inc.  He specializes in the golf swing and body connection with a certification by the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI).  Currently, he acts as the Official Team Chiropractor for Danbury Westerners Baseball Team (NECBL), and the Danbury Rugby Football Club (D2-3 USA Rugby).  He has a particular interest in the connection between posture and repetitive stress injury which is essential in treating individuals of all ages and activity levels.

Dr. Eric Schmitt

Team Physical Therapist, Hat City Physical Therapy

Dr. Schmitt started is Physical Therapy career after graduating from Long Island University with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree.  He still volunteers his time at LIU as a Practice Administrator.  Before becoming a licensed physical therapy provider he earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from AU (Adelphi University) in 2004.

Dr. Schmitt holds a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification from the National Strength Conditioning Association (NSCA) which enables and is currently working towards being a Certified Hand Therapist.  He is well known throughout Connecticut for his orthopedic and sports physical therapy specializations.

Furthermore, Dr. Schmitt uses customized interventions which promote optimum motor control by coupling soft tissue treatment and hands-on mobilization of the joint.  Motor control is essential for fully human movement and experience.

Dr. Lee Day

William Lee Day PT, DPT, MS, ATC, CSCS, EMT, has a Doctorate of Physical Therapy as well as a certification in Athletic Training with a Master’s in Exercise Physiology, and a certification in strength and conditioning from the NSCA. He is also ITPT and ITAT certified through impact. During the course of his career, Dr. Day has worked with several professional sports teams including the New York Giants, and the World League of American Football, the Bridgeport Bluefish, the Sound Tigers, and Arena Football, as well as consulting for the New York Mets. Currently, he is the Medical Director for the Danbury Titans, the Western Connecticut Militia, and for the Danbury Westerners. In addition he serves as a consulting Athletic Trainer for Bethel High School and Immaculate High School.

During the course of his career Dr. Lee has developed a philosophy of community based sports medicine. He believes that any sports medicine specialist should be working with athletes throughout all phases of care. This includes performing lectures to coaches and athletes focused on improving performance and preventing injuries, standing on the sidelines of various sporting events performing triage and caring for injured athletes, providing physical therapy rehabilitation in his own clinic, and referring patients to other area specialists when necessary. His mission is to provide individualized, evidence-based care that allows all patients to attain maximum performance and function whether their problem is due to acute injury, overuse, surgery or degeneration.

In addition Dr. Lee has over thirty years of experience in physical therapy as an educator and provider of skilled therapy in an outpatient rehabilitation setting. Over the course of his career he has cared for athletes and patients with complex medical issues, amputations, neurological diseases, and traumatic injuries. One of his favorite sayings is “If you can get your body into my clinic, I can treat you.”

Dr. Lee started a physical therapy management company which managed an outpatient orthopedic clinic in Danbury for almost a decade. He started Hat City Physical Therapy in 2016 in an effort to work more closely with the local community and he is proud to be the premier sports medicine provider in the greater Danbury area. He also is the owner of AON Physical Therapy & Wellness, with four offices in New York including Brewster, Mahopac, Somers and White Plains.  Lee also is the partner of Park City Physical Therapy in Bridgeport CT.

Dr. Walter Kostrzewski, otherwise known as “Dr. K”, graduated from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1992. In 1993, he completed a General Practice Residency at University Hospital in Stony Brook, NY, with an emphasis on treating the medically compromised patient, dental trauma, sedation and treating the fearful dental patient. 

Dr. Walter Kostrzewski, otherwise known as “Dr. K”, graduated from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1992. In 1993, he completed a General Practice Residency at University Hospital in Stony Brook, NY, with an emphasis on treating the medically compromised patient, dental trauma, sedation and treating the fearful dental patient. 

Since then he has had completed many hundred hours of CE. Dr. K is also earned a BS degree in Biology from Villanova University. Dr. K was a “Sustaining” member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry from 2002-2007. And in 2003 was listed in “New York Magazine” as one of the New York area’s best cosmetic dentists. He is also a member of ADA, DOCS, and a Fellow of the International Academy of Dental Facial Esthetics.
